Local knowledge is the lifeblood of Google Maps.
With over 500 million contributors globally, authentic photos, reviews, and videos play a massive role in helping users navigate their world and confidently decide where to go.
To make it even easier for this community to share their perspectives, Google Maps has rolled out three exciting new updates.
1. Quickly Find and Share Your Favourite Moments
Photos and videos are essential for giving users a true sense of a location, whether it's capturing a restaurant's vibe or a park's layout.
Now, sharing those moments is faster than ever.
By enabling Google Maps media access in your phone settings, the app will automatically highlight relevant photos and videos from your recent experiences directly in the Contribute tab.
With just a tap, you can post your latest captures.
Photo and video recommendations are currently available globally on Android and will be expanding to iOS in the coming months.

2. Get a Head Start on Captions with Gemini
A great photo is made even better with a helpful caption, but finding the right words isn't always easy.
To solve this, Google Maps is tapping into the power of its Gemini AI models to help users draft context-rich captions.
Once you select your photos, Gemini analyses the images and suggests a draft caption. You have complete control to edit, refine, or remove the suggestion before posting, making it effortless to add valuable context to your reviews.
Caption suggestions are currently available in English on iOS in the U.S., with a global and Android expansion coming soon.

3. Track and Celebrate Your Impact
Google Maps is also introducing new ways for contributors to track their impact and celebrate their achievements.
Clearer progress tracking: Total points are now prominently displayed right on the Contribute tab.
Highlighted levels: Local Guide levels are now featured front and centre on profile pages.
Refreshed badges: Updated achievement badges make it clear at a glance whether you’re a master photographer, an expert fact-finder, or a rising novice.
Gold profiles: To help users quickly identify trusted voices in reviews
These profile and achievement updates are rolling out globally across Android, iOS, and desktop.
